Nippon Express Launches 5-Day US Delivery Service

Key takeaways

  • Nippon Express launched "US 5-Day Cross," a five-day delivery service from the Port of Los Angeles.
  • The service uses two-driver teams to run non-stop routes to destinations within 100 miles of major metro areas.
  • It integrates with the NX Ocean Fast Track service, which guarantees 24-hour container release at the port.
  • Cargo tracking devices monitor temperature, humidity, impact, and unauthorized openings to prevent theft.

New Long-Haul Service

Nippon Express Holdings has launched a new five-day delivery option from the Port of Los Angeles to several destinations across the United States, as reported by Supply Chain Dive. The optional service, called US 5-Day Cross, is designed to improve transport reliability for shippers navigating complex global supply chains. Under this service, two-driver teams operate non-stop long-haul routes from Nippon Express warehouses to U.S. destinations located within 100 miles of designated metropolitan areas.

The post-arrival distribution service is integrated into the logistics company’s NX Ocean Fast Track service, which connects Asia to North America and was first introduced in June. A key feature of the ocean service is its guarantee of container release within 24 hours of arrival at the Port of Los Angeles, allowing for a rapid transition to domestic road transport.

Addressing Supply Chain Disruptions

Nippon Express introduced the service to address growing schedule reliability concerns in ocean shipping. Maritime transit has faced significant disruptions recently, including typhoons in Asia and weather-induced restrictions at the Panama Canal. According to the company's press release, shippers are facing longer ocean freight lead times due to geopolitical risks and delays in U.S. rail transport, driving demand for faster, more punctual domestic transport.

Enhanced Security Features

To provide peace of mind, the US 5-Day Cross service includes real-time cargo tracking. Dedicated devices are attached to the cargo during transit to record and visualize environmental data, such as temperature, humidity, and physical impact. Additionally, these devices feature light sensors that detect unauthorized container openings and alert users, reducing the risk of cargo theft.

Headquartered in Japan, Nippon Express is a global logistics and freight forwarding company. It offers ocean, rail, trucking, and multimodal freight services, alongside specialized offerings such as warehousing, heavy machinery transport, temperature-controlled shipping, and overseas relocation.
